Huntly Mine Disaster
Hi. I'm Julie, and today i'm going to teach you about the huntly mine disaster.
On the 12th of september of 1914, 60 men were at work at the mine. Normally on weekdays there are 200 and 50 people at work. At 7.oh 2 an explosion went off. The explosion was caused by a miners naked acetylene cap-lamp igniting something (methane gas given off by coal). The fire made the rescue very hard. Some people tried to escape through the air vents, while some tried to escape through the cages used to transport miners up and down the shaft.

Polish Refugees land in New Zealand
When The kids were on the trains and they stopped off at the stations the kiwi's would give them ice cream and lollies but they didn't know what those things were and since they didn't speak english they couldn't ask what they were.
Over 800 refugees were taken to Wellington in 1944 to escape the Europe wars. 102 of them were adults and 733, children.
A camp for the children, Little Poland, was made for them.
Germany's invasion of the Soviet Union in 1941 made Joseph Stalin send over 120000 Polish prisoners to Iran where they were grown weaker and weaker in refugee camps.
In 1943 Peter Fraser (The Prime Minister) let a group of polish children to New Zealand for the time of the war.
