Huntly Mine Disaster

Hi. I'm Julie, and today i'm going to teach you about the huntly mine disaster.

On the 12th of september of 1914, 60 men were at work at the mine. Normally on weekdays there are 200 and 50 people at work. At 7.oh 2 an explosion went off. The explosion was caused by a miner™s naked acetylene cap-lamp igniting something (methane gas given off by coal). The fire made the rescue very hard. Some people tried to escape through the air vents, while some tried to escape through the cages used to transport miners up and down the shaft.
